Easter is just around the corner and while it has come around sooner than we could have imagined do you have any plans to celebrate it?
It turns out the secret to booking somewhere last minute is to avoid the holiday hotspots such as Perthshire, the Cotswolds and Hampshire. As they’ll set you back a whopping £900 for a last-minute cottage break.
And if want to get away somewhere on your own they found one-bedroom cottages costing just £590. (Prices at the time of writing the article.)
So where is there to stay in Shropshire?
Ludlow
It is home to Ludlow Castle, which dates back to the 11th century.
Ludlow isn’t just a historic town as it is a great place to explore on foot or by bike. The stunning Ludlow Millenium Green is located on the outskirts of the Shropshire hills and is a great place to have a wander or take a picnic to enjoy.
Shrewsbury
The town has plenty to see and do with the Castle and Abbey just to name a few.
It is also home to over 600 listed buildings with a market full of independent sellers and designer shops.
But if you’re after something more serene then you can take a boat trip down the River Severn and enjoy the blissful views.
Craven Arms
The town is named after a 17th-century inn of the same name.
A top visit is the Shropshire Hills Discovery Centre where you can meet the infamous Shropshire Mammoth.
There is also Stokesy Castle which has been dubbed the best-preserved fortified medieval manor house in England.
How to get to Shropshire
Thankfully you don’t have to wait in any airport or board any planes to visit Shropshire. The easiest thing to do is to drive.
Located in the Midlands, you can get the M54 motorway which connects with the M6 and it will take you north or south.
Meanwhile, for those living in the capital, you can take the M1 and then the M6 to get on the M54. Elsewhere if you’re coming from Wales, it’s the A5.
