“Candice, you mean everything to me”: David Warner expresses gratitude to wife after farewell Test
Australian opener David Warner bid farewell to Test cricket after the third and final Test against Pakistan at the Sydney Cricket Ground. Expressing gratitude to his support system, he thanked his parents, brother Steve, and his wife Candice for standing by him throughout his 12-year Test career.
In an emotional post-match statement, Warner acknowledged the pivotal role played by his family in his success.
“Family plays a huge role in your life, and without their support, you can’t achieve your goals. I credit my parents for providing me with a wonderful upbringing. I followed in my brother Steve’s footsteps,” he said.
Warner further reserved a special thanks for his wife, Candice. “Candice came into my life and helped me find my way. We’ve built a wonderful family, and every moment with them is precious. I love them dearly, and I won’t continue talking because I’ll get too emotional. But thank you, Candice, for everything you’ve done. You mean everything to me, and I’m grateful.”
The cricketer, who married Candice in April 2015, emphasized the importance of family and revealed his decision to retire from both Test and ODI cricket to spend more time with them.
“I need to prioritize my family now. I had already mentioned during the World Cup that once it’s over and winning it in India is a significant accomplishment, I would step back from ODI cricket,” he added.
On the fourth day of the SCG Test, Australia secured victory by 8 wickets, claiming the 3-match series 3-0. Warner contributed with a score of 57 runs off 75 balls before being dismissed by Sajid Khan. The match marked the end of Warner’s illustrious Test career, as he received a standing ovation from the Sydney crowd.
