The holiday booking company Tailor Made Rail has shared the best destinations to travel to for an unforgettable railway holiday.

In recent years, a growing number of tourists are taking a railway holiday to avoid crowds and admire the view from their carriage as they travel to a number of destinations.

According to Tailor Made Rail, one of the best train journeys to take is an eight-day trip through the Black Forest in Germany.

Starting out in London, passengers initially travel to Paris before transferring to the holiday’s first major destination of Freiburg, a small city on the western edge of the forest, where tourists will stay for three nights.

Boarding the train, guests then take a two-hour journey to Villingen before heading to Freudenstadt and Cologne, admiring the views of the tree-covered mountains between each town and city.

Tailor Made Rail also highlighted that taking a train is the perfect way to see Switzerland, suggesting a nine-day trip to some of the country’s most renowned cities.

Once arriving in Switzerland, the journey starts at Basel, said to be the most cultural capital of the country, before taking a train to Belalp, where tourists take a trip up a cable car or a scenic walk to their hotel for the night, offering views of the Aletsch Glaciers.

The next stop on the tour is Wengen, a quiet holiday resort where visitors can enjoy some authentic schnapps and see demonstrations of cow milking, before arriving in Flühli and Sils Maria.

Tourists looking to experience a number of countries from a railway journey were advised by Tailor Made Rail to book the London to Istanbul trip.

This 12-day trip initially takes visitors to Strasbourg for a meal in the French city’s historic centre before exploring the city of Munich, Germany to sample the local beer and Vienna, Austria for some sensational coffee and apple strudel.

An overnight train takes passengers more than 500 miles to Brasov, Romania for a trip up the Bran Castle and the ruins of the 13th century Rasnov Fortress, ahead of a visit to the country’s capital of Bucharest. From there, tourists take a train to Sofia, Bulgaria before finishing their trip in Istanbul, Turkey.

Finally, railway travellers wanting a tranquil trip through some of the world’s most stunning scenery were recommended to go on the Norway in a Nutshell trip.

Travelling via Paris, Copenhagen and Gothenburg, tourists’ time in Norway begins with a trip to the capital city of Oslo, where they spend two nights in a hotel before travelling to the mountainous town of Flåm for panoramic views of the country’s famous fjords.

After taking a cruise along the water and a bus ride through some of the nicest villages in the area, passengers finish the trip in Bergan, the country’s second city which features sea views and a history dating back to Medieval times.
