The Canary Islands are home to numerous popular hotspots, particularly party resorts in Tenerife and Gran Canaria, which are well-known to holidaymakers.

Locals have been complaining about an overwhelming number of tourists visiting Lanzarote but if you do fancy a trip, you may want to head to Jameos del Agua.

This remarkable site was designed by Cesar Manrique within natural volcanic tunnels.

The 6km tunnel, partially submerged beneath the sea, now serves as an art, culture and tourism centre, boasting a lagoon inhabited by endangered crabs, an underground acoustics hall, and exceptional dining options.

Jameo Chico offers an indoor dining experience within the volcanic tubes, allowing guests to enjoy a memorable meal amidst the rock formations.

Additionally, the Tunnel of La Atlantida, the underwater section of the tube, and Jameo Grande, a serene space featuring a swimming pool set amongst rugged rocks, are must-visit spots.

In the basalt stone auditorium, visitors can appreciate nature’s superior acoustics. This natural concert hall frequently hosts musicians for unforgettable performances.

Even when empty, visitors report hearing the soft whispers of the wind and harmonious notes echoing through the space.

There’s a museum segment as well, where visitors can delve into the history of the tunnels and the volcanic activity that formed them.

An enthusiastic Tripadvisor user remarked: “We especially loved the part of the museum where you can learn all kinds of explanations about volcanoes and Jameo. Spectacular, totally obligatory to visit.”

An elated tourist also shared their impressions: “Visiting Los Jameos del Agua is visiting one of the most spectacular and wonderful places in the world.

“It is a unique cultural and sensory experience if there ever is one, immersed in its different spaces and Jameos, which transport you to another dimension.

“I finally had the opportunity to visit the House of Volcanoes, and although I think it lacks more content, it is very good for getting closer to the volcanic universe of Lanzarote.”

Beyond the exploration of Los Jameos del Agua, Lanzarote presents plenty of other attractions.

However, there have been complaints from locals and residents about an influx of tourists overwhelming the Canary Islands, with some even warning visitors to “stay away”.
