Former Pakistan batter Basit Ali has lauded India wicket-keeper Rishabh Pant and feels that the southpaw will go for INR 50 crore in the IPL 2025 mega auction. He was impressed with Pant’s batting in the third and final Test against New Zealand at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
The left-handed batter scored two consecutive fifties but couldn’t prevent his team from going down by 21 runs while chasing 147.
“Rishabh Pant scored 60 in the first innings and 64 in the second. People are saying that he will get INR 25 crore in the IPL auction. But for me, he will join a franchise for INR 50 crore,” Basit Ali said.
Basit mentioned that the Wankhede pitch was a rank-turner, but Rishabh Pant made it look like a flat track. The 53-year-old was pleased to see the young Indian batter’s shot selection.
“When Rishabh Pant was in the middle, it looked like a flat surface. He was smart with his shot selection. He didn’t target the areas in which he is weak. Other batters didn’t do that,” he added.
The auction will be held in Saudi Arabia in the last week of November. Pant was not retained by Delhi Capitals as the batter was not interested in continuing to play for the team. He was unhappy with the franchise’s new coaching staff, which will be headed by Hemang Badani.
Rishabh will go for a considerable amount, but the INR 50 crore mark looks unrealistic.
