Basit Ali said that Babar Azam is very popular in Pakistan despite his poor cricket returns. He suggested that the 29-year-old has the biggest family following in the Asian country. According to Basit, the news channels discuss Babar every now and then, which shows his immense popularity.
He also compared Babar’s stardom to that of legendary Imran Khan.
“Babar hasn’t been among the runs, but cameras are still following him everywhere. The fans want to see him, and news channels keep debating about him. This is enough to prove that he is the most popular cricketer in the country,” he said.
“He is leading the race in terms of fan following. We saw the same with Imran Khan. When Imran was on the ground, his chants were heard from every stand. And now the entire Faisalabad is crazy for Babar,” he added.
In the recent two-Test series against Bangladesh, Babar scored 64 runs in four innings.
Babar Azam will represent Stallions in the Champions One-Day Cup 2024
Babar Azam will play for the Stallions in the Champions One-Day Cup. However, he hasn’t been given the captaincy. Mohammad Haris will lead the squad, and Shoaib Malik will serve as a mentor.
The tournament will start in Faisalabad on September 12.
