Salman Butt said that Babar Azam‘s consistent run in the past is inviting trouble for the batter, as fans and former players are miffed with his form in Test cricket. The 29-year-old has been found wanting in the five-day format, with not even a fifty in his last 14 innings.
Babar is averaging 22 in this phase, a massive dip from his overall average of 45 in the most extended format.
“People are targeting Babar Azam for two reasons. There is no doubt that he is the best batter in Pakistan and, I think, the most consistent player of the decade. But the players who failed earlier were more out of form than him. And now, when he is not scoring, everyone thinks he is not doing anything. Babar has made the fans and critics habituated by scoring runs consistently that people now want him to accumulate runs in every match.”
“Pakistan team doesn’t have match-winners with him. Earlier, some players were scoring runs along with him, and Babar’s display used to save them even when they failed. With Babar not scoring runs, they are also getting exposed. He has scored a lot of runs in the past and he is the one who made the most contributions for Pakistan.”
Salman Butt also blamed the Pakistan Cricket Board for not developing good batters, who can win matches if Babar doesn’t fore with the bat.
‘Pakistan doesn’t have good batters, and PCB deserves all the blame. They should have developed technically sound batters, who could have won the matches even if Babar failed.”
