Babar Azam becomes Pakistan’s physio to treat injured Shaheen Shah Afridi

Former captain Babar Azam became a doctor on the field for the injured pacer Shaheen Shah Afridi during the third and final ODI between Pakistan and Australia in Perth on Sunday, November 10. The speedster was hit on the thumb of his bowling arm and was in pain. The incident happened in the 26th over of Australia’s innings when Adam Zampa and Sean Abbott were in the middle.

Abbott completed a run, and the throw from the deep took an awkward bounce and struck Shaheen on his left thumb. The pacer was down and needed some attention from the medical staff. Before the physio came out, Babar started treating his teammate and was seen giving a massage on Shaheen’s thumb. The commentators also spoke about Babar’s gesture.

After getting treatment from the physio, Shaheen was able to continue bowling as Pakistan pacers again demolished the Aussie batting line-up. Australia were bowled out for 140 runs, with Shaheen and Naseem Shah taking three wickets each. Haris Rauf added two scalps to his bowling figures.

If the Men in Green win the series, they will end their 22-year wait for success in Australia. The hosts won the opening game by 2 wickets, while Pakistan clinched a nine-wicket victory in the next contest to level the series.
