Greece is undeniably a dream holiday destination. 

With numerous stunning beaches and a rich cultural heritage, there are plenty of attractions to visit.

But Priyanka Juneja, a US-based travel blogger, has pointed out three common blunders that tourists make when visiting this European gem.

Posting on TikTok she said: “You definitely don’t want to make these mistakes when planning a trip to Greece.

“[First] if you can, you want to avoid travelling to Greece during peak season because it’s going to be really crowded and you’re less likely to find hotel deals.” Priyanka claimed that June, July and August were among the most busy months to visit Greece.

On the flipside, its tourist hotspots are far less overcrowded during May, September and October – the months in which many children are back at school after the summer holidays.

She added: “Don’t make the mistake of only travelling to Santorini or Mykonos for example […] there is a lot to discover.”

You might be surprised to learn that Greece is home to a whopping 6,000 islands, with only 227 of them inhabited. According to Original Travel, some of the lesser-known treasures among these include Kefalonia, Ikaria, Sifnos and Folegandros.

Kefalonia is especially noteworthy as it’s a popular spot for loggerhead sea turtles and even features a breathtaking red sand coast known as Xi beach.

Last of all, Priyanka drew to the Greek capital, Athens. She went on: “Don’t sleep on Athens, it’s a freaking cool city and a lot of people just skip it and go straight to Greek islands. And I think that’s a huge mistake.”

Unsurprisingly, Priyanka’s thoughts were quick to garner attention online, with many viewers also agreeing with her perspective. One person wrote: “I visited Crete, Milos, Athens, and Santorini. Least favourite was Santorini.”

Another added: “How can people skip Athens?!?”, as someone else chimed in: “I just did Athens and literally loved it so much it was my dream to see it.”
