Asia Cup 2025: Former Indian coach warns Arshdeep Singh
Bharat Arun, the former fast bowling coach of India, feels that Arshdeep Singh is entering the Asia Cup with inadequate match practice. The left-arm pacer, who is just one wicket away from claiming 100 T20I wickets, has not played for India since February 2025.
After his impressive performances against England in the lead-up to the 2025 Champions Trophy, Arshdeep played a full season in the IPL. However, he didn’t feature in any international matches during India‘s recent tour of England, where they played five Test matches.
Arshdeep participated in just one game in the Duleep Trophy before heading to the UAE to join the Indian team for the 2025 Asia Cup. Even though he bowled regularly in the nets throughout India’s five-match Test series against England, Bharat Arun believes that Arshdeep is still short of match fitness.
“Arshdeep is well aware of his capabilities. He has probably bowled a lot in England, but he is undoubtedly lacking match practice. Rhythm truly comes from playing in matches, no matter how much you bowl in the nets or during practice sessions,” Bharat Arun shared with PTI in an interview.
“I believe bowling in matches is crucial. It’s a significant challenge for Arshdeep. How quickly he regains his match rhythm will be extremely important. It could happen in an instant, or it might take him a couple of matches to find his rhythm,” the coach, who had two successful tenures as India’s bowling coach between 2014 and 2021, added.
Arshdeep Singh is set to make history as the first Indian cricketer to claim 100 wickets in T20Is. He needs just one more wicket in the upcoming Asia Cup 2025 to reach this milestone. During the group stage, India will play against the UAE, Oman, and Pakistan.
