Ajinkya Rahane scored his 40th first-class century, maiden for his English club Leicestershire in a County Championship Division 2 contest against Glamorgan. His knock scripted Leicestershire’s comeback from a tricky position at Sophia Gardens in Cardiff.
Rahane took 190 balls to score 102 runs in the second innings after Glamorgan posted 550 for 9. Rahane’s nearly two-year century drought ended in England. His 39th ton came in a Ranji Trophy match against Assam in January 2023.
After getting bowled out for 251 in their first innings, Leicestershire were 74/3 in their second. Rahane and Peter Handscomb added 183 runs for the fourth wicket. Rahane was dismissed by Kiran Carlson.
Rahane hit 13 fours and a six in Cardiff to take Leicestershire out of trouble.
Despite not being considered by national selectors since July 2023, Rahane is not ready to give up. A good performance for Leicestershire will boost his confidence ahead of the domestic season. Rahane was not selected for the upcoming Duleep Trophy, a four-day tournament which features top Indian players.
Rahane scored 378 runs in 10 matches, including four half-centuries in the One-Day Cup for Leicestershire. Rahane has accumulated 13,387 runs in first-class cricket in 190 games. In 85 Tests, he has 5077 runs, including 12 centuries.
