Jasprit Bumrah will not be available for all five Tests in India‘s upcoming England tour due to workload management issues, according to chief selector Ajit Agarkar, who revealed the 18-player squad. Agarkar mentioned that the choice was made following discussions with the physios and medical team of the Indian cricket board.
“According to the physios and doctors, it’s unlikely that he will be available for all five Tests.”
“We’ll see how the series progresses and how his body responds to the workload, whether it’s four or three matches. He is crucial for us. Even if he is only fit for three or four Tests, he has the ability to help us win matches,” he said
“We’re pleased that he’s fit and that the issue he had in Australia wasn’t too serious. He’s already back playing, albeit in T20 cricket, but his performances in the IPL have impressive. I’m really happy to have him in the squad,” he added.
Bumrah stepped in as captain for India in two Tests during the 2024-25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy while Rohit was unavailable. He led the team to victory in the first match.
Although Bumrah missed India’s Champions Trophy campaign due to injury, he made a successful return in IPL 2025, delivering impressive performances with 16 wickets in nine matches for Mumbai Indians.
