After a lengthy recovery from an ankle injury sustained during the ODI World Cup in October 2023, Mumbai Indians (MI) captain Hardik Pandya has resumed batting practice sessions in preparation for the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 season. The star all-rounder suffered the injury while attempting to stop the ball during his follow-through while bowling in an ODI match against Bangladesh in Pune.
Hardik Pandya missed the remainder of the World Cup, which India ultimately lost in the final to Australia. He has since completed his rehabilitation and has returned to practicing batting in the nets. The MI captain shared a glimpse of his batting session on his official Instagram handle. “Back at it,” he captioned the post.
Here’s the post:
Hardik Pandya’s return to the field has been met with optimism, as the MI management has decided to hand him the captaincy, replacing Rohit Sharma2. Former Indian captain Sunil Gavaskar has backed this decision, stating that the move will benefit both the Mumbai Indians and the former skipper.
Gavaskar also suggested that MI took the tough decision with an eye on the future as Rohit Sharma is already 36 years old and faces immense pressure being the captain of India for all three formats.
Hardik Pandya’s return to the field and his new role as captain of the Mumbai Indians have generated excitement among fans and pundits alike, as they anticipate the team’s performance in IPL 2024.
