Former Australian wicketkeeper Adam Gilchrist has suggested that MS Dhoni should consider stepping away from the Chennai Super Kings (CSK), following a dismal Indian Premier League 2025 campaign. While the 43-year-old has refrained from commenting on his future, he has been retained by CSK for three years.
Despite Dhoni’s continued excellence behind the stumps and his contributions with the bat, CSK are 10th in the points table. After failing to qualify for the playoffs in the previous season, the five-time champions have failed in the ongoing edition as well. Dhoni returned as a captain after Ruturaj Gaikwad was ruled out mid-season.
“Dhoni has nothing left to prove as he has achieved everything. He will make his own decision, but I feel he doesn’t need to be there next year.I love you, MS. You are a champion and an icon,” Gilchrist said on Cricbuzz.
Gilchrist feels Dhoni has reached the pinnacle and is likely to opt for retirement after the 18th season. He also suggested that CSK should release Shaik Rasheed, Devon Conway, and Deepak Hooda before the next season.
