Aakash Chopra applauds Virat Kohli for winning matches and inspiring fitness across generations
Star batsman Virat Kohli‘s prowess in winning matches for India and his significant impact on promoting fitness in an entire generation have earned him high praise from former Indian cricketer Aakash Chopra.
As India prepares for a five-match Test series against England, Kohli finds himself in the 16-member squad for the initial two encounters, the first of which is scheduled at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad on January 25.
Expressing his admiration on his YouTube channel, Chopra highlighted Kohli’s substantial influence on the game.
“If you want to assess a player’s greatness, you consider a few factors. First, there’s longevity. He’s 35, and it appears he can play for another four years. Next is his impact on the game, he wins matches and has made a whole generation fit. His influence has been enormous,” he said.
Undoubtedly, Kohli’s dominance spans across formats, with statistics supporting his claim to greatness. Kohli has amassed a staggering 26,733 runs in 522 international matches across formats, boasting an impressive average of 54.11. His record includes an impressive tally of 80 centuries and 139 half-centuries.
Chopra further emphasized Kohli’s adaptability across three formats, citing it as another crucial aspect of his greatness.
“Another crucial factor is the ability to adapt across three formats, and he excels in that. Then, there are the sheer records, the numbers. The statistics speak for themselves – 50 ODI centuries, four double centuries in a single Test year, and almost 1000 runs in an IPL season,” he added.
