In a stunning display of batting prowess, Indian opener Yashasvi Jaiswal not only secured a brilliant double century against England but also matched the world record set by the legendary Wasim Akram. Jaiswal’s remarkable feat took place during the third Test between India and England in Rajkot.
The youngster became only the third Indian batter to score back-to-back Test double hundreds. His exceptional performance played a pivotal role in Team India’s resounding victory over England.
Jaiswal’s innings saw him equal Akram’s 12 sixes in a single Test innings, previously unmatched by any other player. Following this remarkable achievement, Wasim Akram, the iconic Pakistani fast bowler, graciously acknowledged Jaiswal’s accomplishment.
“My innings record for the most sixes wasn’t broken, Yashasvi Jaiswal matched it. Some may say it was against Zimbabwe, but it wasn’t a simple task. I recall our team being 170/6 when I stepped up to bat,” Akram told A Sports.
Despite his unbeaten score of 257 off 363 balls, Pakistan was unable to secure a victory in that Test match as Zimbabwe managed to force a draw.
Jaiswal’s record-breaking performance in Rajkot extended beyond his equaling Akram’s world record. He became the first Indian player to convert his first three Test centuries into scores of 150 or more, solidifying his position as a rising star in the world of cricket. At the age of 22 years and 49 days, Jaiswal also became the third youngest player to achieve two double centuries in Test cricket.
Furthermore, Team India’s collective batting prowess was on full display as they collectively hit 28 sixes against England in Rajkot, setting a new record for the most sixes by any team in a single Test match.
