- The new model shares much of its styling with the sleek SU7 sedan.
- Recent reports have suggested BEV and EREV versions of the SUV could be sold.
- Xiaomi is expected to unveil its second model in 2025.
It’s only been a few months since electronics giant Xiaomi launched its SU7 electric sedan, which has gained much fanfare in China, but work is already well underway on the firm’s next model. After hearing rumors about it in April, the first prototype of the Xiaomi SUV has been spotted in the wild.
This new model, currently known as the MX11, will not be as large as recent renderings depicted, and these photos shared on Chinese social media show that it’ll be more similar in shape and size to the Ferrari Purosangue. As such, it looks more like a mix between a liftback and a conventional SUV, sitting quite low, and featuring a redesigned roof and rear half compared to the sedan.

The front half of the new Xiaomi has been slightly lifted, and the fascia sits a little higher. The camouflage and body cladding make it a little difficult to see the headlights, grilles, and intakes, but they are expected to be quite similar to the SU7. Like the SU7, a lidar sensor can be seen mounted above the windshield.
The unique shape of this prototype is especially obvious when looking at it from the side. The side windows sit slightly taller, and the tailgate is also higher. These changes will help to increase headroom for passengers seated at the rear and should also help to boost luggage space.
Similarities between Xiaomi’s SUV and its sedan continue at the rear where the same LED taillights and light bar are featured. This prototype also has a third brake light beneath the rear window.
Technical details about the model aren’t known but in April, reports suggested it would use a different platform than the SU7 and be built to support a range-extender option. However, given how similar the SUV will be to the firm’s sedan in size and shape, using the same platform will probably make more financial sense.
Chinese media predicts Xiaomi’s new SUV will be unveiled in 2025.
