VW’s New Teramont Pro Previews 2026 Atlas

SAIC Volkswagen has unveiled the new Teramont Pro in China and it’s worth a look as the model likely previews the redesigned Atlas. If that’s the case, we can expect a larger and more advanced seven-seat crossover.

Starting outside, the Teramont Pro sports a streamlined design with a fully enclosed grille that is flanked by large headlights. They’re joined by a sporty front fascia, which features an assortment of intakes.

Moving further back, we can see flowing bodywork as well as flush-mounted door handles. Designers also added a distinctive character line as well as an updated greenhouse. Other notable highlights include a spoiler and a rear light bar with pixel-like taillights.
The crossover has grown in size as it now measures 203.1 inches (5,158 mm) long, 78.4 inches (1,991 mm) wide, and 70.4 inches (1,788 mm) tall. That makes the Teramont Pro 2.4 inches (61 mm) longer than the Atlas, while width and height are also up slightly.
Volkswagen didn’t say much about the interior, but we can see a digital instrument cluster, a floating infotainment system, and a front passenger display. The model can also be equipped with three additional screens, which suggests the Teramont Pro will be offered with a rear seat entertainment system.
Speaking of equipment, buyers will find a panoramic sunroof, a Harman Kardon audio system, and a 30 color ambient lighting system. They’re joined by a fragrance diffuser as well as a “queen” front passenger seat, which has an electric footrest as well as massage and ventilation functions.
Other notable highlights include rear climate controls and rear sunshades. We can also see a floating center console and what appears to be a wireless smartphone charger.

New EA888 Evo5 2.0-Liter Turbo
Power is provided by a fifth-generation EA888 engine, which promises improved responsiveness as well as lower fuel consumption and emissions. In order to achieve this, the familiar powertrain has been extensively updated.
The latest engine operates on the Miller cycle and uses a 500 bar ultra-high pressure fuel system to “atomize the fuel more finely.” This helps to improve combustion efficiency, while also reducing emissions and engine noise. The model also sports a variable-geometry turbocharger as well as an exhaust purification device, which uses high-temperature exhaust gases to “efficiently purify harmful substances.”
The changes don’t stop there as the crankshaft, connecting rods, pistons, and other moving parts have been “comprehensively strengthened.” The lubrication system has also been improved, while there are also intake and intercooler upgrades.

While that’s a brief overview of the changes, the output climbs to 268 hp (200 kW / 272 PS) and 295 lb-ft (400 Nm) of torque. That’s an increase of 51 hp (38 kW / 52 PS) and 37 lb-ft (50 Nm). For comparison, the US-spec Atlas has a fourth-gen EA888 engine producing 269 hp (201 kW / 273 PS) and 273 lb-ft (370 Nm) of torque.
The engine is connected to a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission and a 4Motion all-wheel drive system. This setup enables the crossover to accelerate from 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h) in 7.6 seconds.
Volkswagen was coy on additional details, but the Teramont Pro has DCC adaptive chassis control as well as an IQ. Pilot assisted driving system. The latter is billed as a L2+ semi-autonomous driving system and Volkswagen also noted the model has a “parking butler system,” which provides remote parking assist.
