Vir Das’ Formal Attire Celebrates India At The International Emmy Awards 2024

Stand-up comedian and actor, Vir Das returned to the 52nd International Emmy stage as its host after his 2023 win for the comedy special, Landing
Vir Das is the first Indian to host the prestigious International Emmy Awards.
Vir Das returned to the International Emmy Awards 2024 as host after his recent Netflix comedy special Landing earned him a 2023 International Emmy win for Comedy, his first win and second nomination.
Hosted in New York City, the world renowned comedian and actor looked dapper in a formal attire designed by homegrown Indian fashion label, Salooka by Shubangi Bajpai. The ensemble a perfect fusion of East Meets West featured a blazer paired with a tone on tone embroidered white kurta and flared, anti-fit pants. Styled by celebrity stylist Shreeja Rajgopal, Vir accentuated his look with a statement emerald pendant which added a pop of colour to his overall black and white look.
But there is something special behind Vir’s Emmy look.
It all began with an Instagram post Vir Das shared after being announced as the International Emmy Awards 2024 host. What started with ‘Attention new designers’ became young, talented Shubangi Bajpai’s dream come true moment. Vir Das was very clear in the post he shared that he wasn’t going to pick an outfit from a fancy fashion designer, instead wanted to celebrate budding talent at the prestigious awards ceremony. “I’m going to wear something Indian from home. I’m also not going to wear a fancy designer. They have enough cash and clients,” expressed Vir, on his Instagram post.
So with the hope of launching a budding designer, label, or student, Vir Das was elated to have received over 4000 submissions. A day before the awards ceremony, Vir announced that as promised he would be wearing a new designer and Shubhangi’s label Salooka made the cut. The Delhi-based designer worked with Vir’s team, which includes celebrity stylist Shreeja Rajgopal, to help bring Vir’s vision to life.
“As promised. I will be wearing a brand new designer for the Emmys. As promised, I know nothing about fashion. But she does and she worked super hard. Her name is Shubhangi Bajpai and she is from Delhi. Happy to show you her work soon. Do keep in mind, she doesn’t have much to work with here,” expressed Vir Das, on his Instagram post.
A life changing moment in Vir’s life, Vir is the first Indian to host the prestigious International Emmy Awards. “I am so happy to be hosting the International Emmys. It’s a massive prestigious night to uphold makers from across a world that I believe, is making its best content,” expressed Vir Das, adding, “I know first-hand how it can be life changing.”
Beyond his comedy and acting talents, Vir is also the lead singer for India’s comedy-rock band Alien Chutney.
