Tariffs Be Damned, Which Imported Car Is Worth Your Money?

Prices are set to rise on most cars in America, but some are so good they might still be worth it

Tariffs are here, and let’s just say they’ve made quite the entrance, with some calling them extraordinary. Expect the cost of nearly every car to rise, as in addition to the 25% tariff on imported new cars, there are plans to impose the same tariff on imported car parts. Not exactly a surprise.

Ferrari’s already cranked up its prices by 10%, and while their elite clientele will barely bat an eye, the rest of us, who don’t get personal invites to Maranello’s VIP events, might be second-guessing a new car purchase. That said, there are many cars worth the splurge, even in uncertain times. So today, we’re asking you to tell us which ones are worth it. But first, let’s offer a few suggestions.

Take the BMW M3, for example. It’s a brilliant car, despite its less-than-ideal grin (seriously, those kidney grilles). It’s fast, reasonably comfortable, and more than capable as a daily driver. That blend of performance and practicality might just make the sting of a tariff increase a bit easier to swallow.

There are some other solid options to consider. The Hyundai Ioniq 5 N, for instance, is made with only about 1% American content. The same goes for the Ioniq 6. But despite their limited domestic roots, both are excellent cars that punch well above their weight.

Now, if you’re eyeing a sports car, you’ll want to know that models like the Nissan Z and Mazda MX-5 are made entirely outside the U.S. So, expect price hikes there too. At least, for now, you can still find some very good deals on the Z, though we wouldn’t count on those lasting much longer.

For my money, I think anything with an RS badge on it from Audi or a 911 GT3 from Porsche would be well worth the MSRP. Sure, it’s unlikely dealers will offer any of those at the suggested price, but they’d be worth it n my opinion.

The RS3, for instance, is a fantastic everyday cruiser with tons of power and a very playful powertrain. The RS6 Avant is probably the best mix of fun and functionality in wagon form. Then, when it comes to Porsche, it’s hard to argue against just how great the GT3 is. Sure, it’s wildly expensive, and tariffs won’t make it any more affordable, but it’s basically an instant classic.
