Ramadan 2024: Amid Rise In Demand For Fruits, Prices Surge In UP’s Rampur

Ramadan is considered a special time of the year for Muslims. This period is for praying and forgiving by Muslims across the world. The true essence of Ramadan lies in the fact that people pray for forgiveness of all their past sins by practising self-control through fasting and purifying themselves by doing good deeds. During Ramadan, almost every Muslim keeps a fast from dawn until dusk, breaking it only after sunset. This year, Ramadan began on March 11 and is expected to continue for 29–30 days, concluding with Eid-ul-Fitr.

During the evening, Muslims break their fast by having a meal together, known as Iftar. People tend to enjoy a variety of foods, and among them, fruits are quite popular as well. It has been found that the price of fruits has increased, especially during the time of Ramadan.

After breaking their intense fast, Muslims choose to eat a lot of fruits. The supply of different types of fruits has been on the rise in Uttar Pradesh’s Rampur. As per the local fruit sellers, it has been found that watermelon has continued to be the most preferred and liked fruit for breaking the fast. A shopkeeper has also revealed that papaya, grapes, guava, mango, and desert melon are being sold more at his shop.

The price range of these fruits is somewhere between Rs 80 and Rs 100 per kg. The shopkeeper also added that in the holy month of Ramadan, along with local fruits, foreign fruits are in high demand in the market. Pakistan’s juicy safeda is being liked very much by the common people. Usually, the price of the fruit is somewhere around Rs 150 per kg, but during this period, it is being sold at Rs 180 per kg.

Another watermelon seller has revealed that during the month of Ramadan, people are buying watermelons extensively. This is mainly because watermelons are quite juicy and sweet, which also fulfils the shortage of water in the body. The price of watermelon ranges from Rs 25 to Rs 30. Apart from that, oranges and grapes have also been in great demand on the market.
