I’ve been willing to do the PetSafe ScoopFree Ultra review for a long time now and perhaps, it’s time I do one now!
I’ve been around cats for most of my childhood. While growing up, I’ve been around cats more than I have been around people. (You can guess the intensity now).
I’ve liked cats and never thought about the mess that they leave behind or that has to be cleaned up later. I just enjoyed feeding them, playing and cuddling with them. I never cleaned their mess up or even wondered about how messy it would be until I moved out.
It was when I moved out independently and decided to keep a cat of my own, that I realized the real struggles.
I had to clean the litter box daily and struggled with it. It was then that one of my close friends saw my struggle and recommended me the Ultra Self-Cleaning Cat Litter Box. Its Self-cleaning feature left me in awe and I was happier than ever when I saw my furry friend use the new litter box with ease.

Here is a compilation of how I felt about the product and some features that I really liked. This review will dig deeper into the product and help you decide if it’s the right product for you.
An Insight of ScoopFree Ultra Self-Cleaning Litter Box
The PetSafe ScoopFree Ultra Self-Cleaning Cat Litter Box is great for lazy owners like me as it can be left alone for weeks at a time. Its self-cleaning property does wonders as all you have to do is literally just plug in the box.
It comes with a safety hood which keeps the litter in the box. This litter box comes with a safety sensor which sweeps waste into the covered compartment a few minutes (5, 10 or 20) after your cat uses the litter box. What I love about this feature is that the timer resets if the safety sensors detect that your cat has re-entered the box.
This Self-Cleaning litter box is available in two colors namely purple and taupe.

Features I Loved So Much
I have been using this litter box for a while now and have been totally loving it. I am very impressed by its modern features. Listed below are some of the features that I totally cannot get over.
Self-Cleaning Litter Box
As the name of the product itself suggests, self-cleaning is the key feature of PetSafe ScoopFree Ultra. I deal with a busy schedule and this feature works perfectly for someone like me.
I don’t have to worry about cleaning or refilling for weeks. The system cleans the entire box a few minutes after your cat uses it. This is honestly the best feature. I bet you can’t ask for more.
Odor Control
Coming back home to a house with smelly odors is the last thing you want after a stressful day. The PetSafe ScoopFree Ultra litter box just does the job.
The box contains a crystal cat litter which absorbs urine and dehydrates solid waste to remove any door. The covered trap locks away the solid waste and odor, I honestly have to never touch or see any waste. This crystal litter is formulated to eliminate odors 5 times more efficiently than clay or clumping litter.
Less Mess
The low-tracking crystals don’t stick to your kitty’s feet and are 99% dust-free.
Leak Protection
PetSafe ScoopFree Ultra comes with plastic tray liners which prevent leaking that can stink the house. The plastic tray lining creates a powerful extra barrier to help protect against leakage.
These work great and I don’t have to worry or check for the leakage.
Also, no scooping is required while cleaning. You simply have to remove the disposable litter trays and throw it away.
Privacy Hood
PetSafe ScoopFree Ultra comes with a privacy hood which is great as it gives your cat a little privacy while she does her business.
Training and Health Counter
The PetSafe ScoopFree Ultra comes with a health counter that tells you how many times your cats enter the box. You can reset it every day or however often you’d like.
It’s an easy way to tell if your cats are used to the new box. The cats became comfortable with the box in a few days. The 1st day I set up the box, the counter said that my cat had been in the box 3 times, though they didn’t do any business. I reset the timer and checked it again on the second day. The cats got used to the box and started using it more, and I could track it.
You can gauge how often your cats use the bathroom to monitor for health issues. It’s a great way to check if the cat is healthy. Also, it might help to determine that it’s time for cleaning the box.
Things I Didn’t Like About the Product
I was quite loving the PetSafe ScoopFree Ultra until I realized that the litter trays need to be bought to maintain the system. The trays can get a bit pricey, especially when you have more than one cat. So, it might get expensive to maintain the system.
Another thing which was not quite likable was that my cat took the adjusting to the crystal litter. This is the only type of litter which is compatible with this unit and your cat may not use the crystal litter at all.
Who is it for?
The main feature of the PetSafe ScoopFree Ultra is its automatic self-cleaning. So, if you’re someone like me who has a busy schedule, travels a lot or simply doesn’t like messing around with the mess, this litter box is perfect for you.
Pricing and Purchase
As it is an automated cat litter box it is obviously costlier than the non-automated ones. However, for its price, PetSafe ScoopFree Ultra gives many favorable features. For an automated listed box, it is a great buy as it is cheaper than most of the other automated litter boxes.
It is only for the trays that the cost seems a bit high as the trays have to be replaced often.
Alternative Product
ScoopFree Original Self-Cleaning Cat Litter Box is an alternative if you’re looking for a similar product which is cheaper.
The product is automatic and contains a disposable litter tray. It has a blue crystal cat litter similar to the Ultra Self-cleaning box.
However, it lacks a few features like the privacy hood and the health recorder. Also, you cannot set the preset time for the sweep.
If you are willing to compromise with these features, this product is also a great buy. It is also much cheaper than the Ultra Self-Cleaning litter box.
Final Opinion
For me, PetSafe ScoopFree Ultra has done wonders. My cat has now adapted well with the litter box and has no problems using it. The self-cleaning option works great for me and I don’t have to worry about cleaning the litter anymore. Also, it has helped me keep a good check on my little one’s health by the health recorder.
The Ultra Self-cleaning litter box works great and I would definitely recommend it to you. However, if you are willing to pay less and are okay with the features the Original Self-Cleaning box has to offer, then that product would work great as well.
Personally, I now cannot do without my PetSafe ScoopFree Ultra Self-Cleaning Cat Litter Box for my kitty. It works great for both of us!
