Law And Order, Jeep Style: Wagoneer L Gets The Lights, Sirens, And A Gun Vault

Some law enforcement and government fleets in the U.S. will soon be cruising around in 2024 Jeep Wagoneer L models, now decked out with a special upgrade package tailored for the long-wheelbase SUV.

These law enforcement-ready Wagoneers are equipped with everything short of a rooftop disco ball—flashing red and blue lights behind the grille, under the top of the windshield, and in the rear quarter windows. Jeep didn’t stop there; it also added a new siren and speaker system, a rear gun vault, a power distribution center, and all the wiring you need to keep the light show running.

Let’s be clear: the Wagoneer L isn’t a pursuit-rated vehicle, so don’t expect it to be burning rubber in high-speed chases. Instead, it’s more suited for security patrols or rolling around as a Special Service Vehicle (SSV), much like the Ford F-150 and Expedition SSV or the Ram 1500 SSV. It’s the SUV equivalent of a security guard in a three-piece suit—presentable but not built for the chase.

Under the hood, the law enforcement Wagoneer L is still the same beast. It packs a twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six engine that pumps out 420 hp and 468 lb-ft of torque, paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission. Available in both 4×2 and 4×4 setups, it has the muscle but not the mission for a speedster showdown.

All of the expected safety features are present too. These include Adaptive Cruise Control with Stop and Go, eight airbags, Blind Spot Monitoring and Rear Cross-Path Detection, Electronic Stability Control, and Active Lane Management. The Wagoneer L also has a 360-degree Surround-View Camera System, a head-up display, and a front and rear park assist system.

Stellantis’ American arm has a long-standing tradition of supplying the boys in blue with vehicles fit for duty. Their specially-equipped Chargers and Durangos are practically staples at precincts nationwide, and now, the Wagoneer L is ready to join the party.
