- Rare 2001 Diablo VT 6.0 with gated manual is up for auction on Bring a Trailer.
- This Viola Ophelia example has been driven less than 18,000 miles since new.
- Powered by a 6.0-liter naturally aspirated V12 producing 543 hp and 457 lb-ft.
Getting into Lamborghini ownership has never been cheap, but today’s market has moved in some unexpected ways. In the US, the plug-in hybrid Revuelto commands a starting price of just over $600,000. Yet remarkably, the same sum could also secure you a pristine, low-mileage 2001 Diablo. Interest in classic Raging Bulls has surged to the point where bidding on this particular car has already doubled its original sticker price.

Likely the first thing you’ll notice about this Diablo is the color. It’s a spectacular shade of purple known as Viola Ophelia that suits the supercar to a tee. After all, if you’re going to drive a vehicle that announces itself everywhere it goes, you might as well let the paint do some of the talking too.
Questions Around The Paint

There was some debate about whether the finish was entirely original, thanks to an invoice listing “Bodywork – repaint as necessary” at $8,600 before taxes. The seller responded, “It is possible that the paint has been touched up as necessary, most likely to complete a paint correction detail followed by the application of paint protection film (PPF) for protection, however we cannot confirm”
He continued, “Nowhere does it state that a complete repaint was carried out. In fact, we can assure everyone that a Lamborghini Diablo could not be fully repainted in an exceptionally rare color like Viola Ophelia for $8,600.”
A previous owner, who purchased the car for $235,000 in 2015 and sold it for $265,000 the following year, also weighed in. He stated that, “I don’t ever recall the car being repainted. It was always Viola”.

Contrasting the paint are 18-inch Speedline wheels with a silver finish and sitting over Brembo brake calipers that were painted yellow back in 2014. As this Diablo has been driven less than 18,000 miles (roughly 29,000 km), the exterior looks immaculate and shows very few signs of wear. Even the engine bay looks brand new and includes a matching Viola Ophelia cover.

The interior is just as gorgeous as the exterior. It is bathed in Bianco white leather with a Marrone suede dashboard, a black headliner, and plenty of carbon fiber accents. Perhaps the most appealing element of this Diablo VT 6.0 is the fact that it has a gated five-speed manual transmission, which isn’t something you’ll find in any modern Lamborghini.

Power Without Filters
Behind the shifter sits a 6.0-liter naturally aspirated V12 that produces 543 horsepower and 457 lb-ft of torque. All four wheels are driven, a welcome feature considering this generation of Diablo arrived without traction control. It is a raw driving experience in the best sense, and one that modern systems rarely allow.
The car is currently listed on Bring a Trailer, where bidding has already cleared $525,000 with time still left on the clock. For anyone keeping track, that’s more than double what a previous owner paid a decade ago in 2015. For collectors and enthusiasts, this Diablo represents more than just a striking supercar. It’s a snapshot of Lamborghini at its wildest, before electronic safety nets and hybrid power reshaped the brand.
