Genesis Might Kill Its Cheapest Model But It’s Not Sure What Comes Next
- A Genesis official has suggested the brand isn’t interested in entry-level models.

While many automakers have given up on sedans or trimmed their lineups, Genesis offers three of them, spanning from the $42,500 G70 to the $89,700 G90. In other words, there’s something for nearly every type of luxury buyer.

However, that might not be the case for much longer as the company is reportedly considering a move upmarket to focus on larger and more expensive vehicles. This could potentially result in the G70 being phased out.

Speaking to Car and Driver, Genesis’ global product officer said, “It’s very attractive to think, okay, let’s do a front-wheel drive, $45,000 or below model.” In other words, something along the lines of the Mercedes CLA.
However, Marc Choi said Genesis is “resisting at the moment” as their “goal … is to pull up the brand equity.” He went on to say, “So even within our lineup, we want to focus on some of the larger products like G80, GV80, and G90 series where we can make more product and equity for the brand.”
That doesn’t sound too promising for the entry-level sedan, but Choi stated, “We want to create, potentially, a next-generation G70 with a little bit more affordable price range.” However, this could lead to some overlap with Hyundai and Kia.
Of course, the G70’s closest competitor was the Kia Stinger, and that model died in 2023. While that sedan is sadly a thing of the past, the Hyundai Grandeur is available in some markets, and it’s pretty luxurious.
