Ford’s New Global Design Boss Is The One Who Penned The GT Supercar

Todd Willing has been appointed the new head of Ford Design, following a 21-year-long career with the brand. Willing will be responsible for the design of all Ford and Lincoln models worldwide, replacing Anthony Lo after his recent departure from the role.

Todd Willing is a Ford veteran, having been with the automaker since 2003. His first involvement took place when he was still in highschool, as part of a work experience program by Ford’s Australian Design Studio in Melbourne. After that, he studied industrial design at the Monash University in Australia, allowing him to pursue his passion.

During his professional career at Ford, he led design teams in Japan, Germany, UK, the US, and Australia, signing off important models for the brand. The 50-year-old designer was responsible for the looks of the 2007 Mondeo, 2009 Fiesta, 2010 Focus, and the 2017 Ford GT supercar. The latter is widely considered as one of his greatest hits, thanks to its striking silhouette and sophisticated aerodynamics.

Later on, Willing took on the responsibility for Ford trucks and SUVs, setting the tone for the F-150, Super Duty, Ranger, Bronco, Maverick, Explorer, and Expedition model lines. Before his latest promotion, Willing was the global design director of the Ford Model e, the dedicated division for the brand’s fully electric models. His new role proves that the board trust him on creating the styling language for future Fords on a global scale.

According to the announcement, Willing is currently based in southeastern Michigan, living with his his wife and three children.
