BMW Cuts Its Grille But Not Its Critics In Upcoming 7 Series Facelift
- It appears BMW’s designers have reduced the size of the sedan’s kidney grilles.
- Some minor tweaks will also be made to the rear-end, including the taillights.
- The company may also update the interior of the 7-Series with new displays.
Big things are happening at BMW. Not only is the carmaker working on a family of fresh EVs with a new generation of motors and batteries, but it is also ushering in an entirely different design language, known as Neue Klasse. This new philosophy will debut on the second-gen iX3 and is also being introduced across all of BMW’s current ICE-powered models, including the 7-Series.

Last month, our spy photographers snapped a prototype of the new i7 testing up close, looking similar to the current model but complete with a number of obvious alterations. Using these spy shots as a base, the team from Kolesa has rendered what the finished production may look like. And, unfortunately, we have bad news for those who were hopeful the new 7-Series would look nice.
Subtle Front-end Evolution
Based on recent spy shots, it appears that the styling changes made to the 7-Series will be less significant than those made to some other BMW models. Like the existing model, the updated sedan will continue to rock a pair of thin LED daytime running lights at the top of the front fascia, although they do appear slightly slimmer than before.
BMW’s designers have also worked on tweaking the car’s front kidney grilles. While they are still massive and are not incorporated as neatly into the fascia as other impending Neue Klasse models, the kidneys are slightly smaller than the current model, which is a very good thing. Helping them fit more neatly into the fascia will be horizontal slats, instead of vertical ones, as well as a blacked-out finish, as opposed to chrome.
Connected by a black panel to each kidney grille is the main headlamp unit, appearing slightly smaller than the outgoing 7-Series.
The back of the car is less of a departure. The most obvious change will come from slimmer, newly styled LED taillights, paired with a reworked bumper that should give the luxury sedan a sharper look without rewriting the overall design.
What About The Cabin?

It’s unclear what changes will be made to the sedan’s interior. It is possible that the flagship model could utilize BMW’s new Panoramic Vision system, which includes a large infotainment display and a narrow, full-width display running along the base of the windshield.
