After A Two-Year Wait, Man’s New Mustang Dark Horse Stolen Right Before Delivery
Ford Australia has been able to secure the customer a replacement, but it won’t arrive until Q2 2025

The new Ford Mustang Dark Horse recently made its Australian debut, with a limited run of just 1,000 units, all of which have already been sold. Unfortunately, the excitement surrounding this muscle car was quickly dampened for one unlucky buyer who lost the car before they could even take delivery.
It’s understood the Mustang was stolen from the Port of Melbourne mere moments after the ship carrying it docked from the US. The theft occurred a full two years after the initial order was placed.

A Ford spokesperson confirmed to Drive that the Mustang had been stolen “in transit” and that police were aware of the theft. While the Dark Horse’s 1,000-unit run has already been accounted for in Australia, the carmaker said it’s “working on sourcing a replacement for them as quickly as possible.”
However, in news that’ll no doubt frustrate the owner, they will likely have to wait until the second quarter of 2025 before a replacement lands on local shores.
The whereabouts of the stolen Mustang are unknown, but it’s unlikely it’ll remain in Australia for long. Newly-delivered cars that are stolen are frequently shipped overseas, where they’re much harder to track.
In Australia, the Dark Horse carries a sticker price of AU$99,102 before on-road costs, or the equivalent of $63,200 at current exchange rates, almost exactly the same as the starting price in the US.
However, horsepower-hungry Australians don’t get to enjoy quite as much grunt as models sold in the US. In fact, whereas homegrown Dark Horses deliver 500 hp (373 kW) and 418 lb-ft (567 Nm) of torque from a 5.0-liter V8, cars sold Down Under are capped at 462 hp (345 kW) and 405 lb-ft (550 Nm).
