Rishabh Pant smashed an unbeaten 88 to lead Delhi Capitals to a thrilling victory over Gujarat Titans on April 25. His performance strengthened his case for selection in India’s T20 World Cup squad. DC were in trouble at 44-3 in the powerplay but Pant’s heroic batting powered them to a massive total of 224-4 at the Arun Jaitley Stadium.
Axar Patel and Rishabh Pant orchestrated a crucial 113-run partnership that revived Delhi Capitals’ innings. Patel played a pivotal role, contributing a quickfire 66 that propelled the Capitals towards a commanding total. Despite valiant efforts from the Titans, including David Miller‘s explosive 55 and a late blitz by Rashid Khan, DC managed to restrict Gujarat to 220-8, clinching a hard-fought four-run victory.
Showcasing his aggressive batting style, Pant smashed his third half-century this season. He unleashed a barrage of sixes in the final over and scored 31 runs against Mohit Sharma. But one six accidentally hit and hurt a cameraman. After the intense fireworks, Pant said sorry to the cameraman after realizing what had happened.
After a serious car crash in December 2022, Pant went through an extensive recovery before coming back to competitive cricket in this year’s IPL. His outstanding performance in the league has earned high praise from Delhi Capitals’ leadership, with director Sourav Ganguly and coach Ricky Ponting strongly recommending him for India’s T20 World Cup team.
Currently, Rishabh Pant ranks third on the Orange Cap list and is the leading run scorer for the Delhi Capitals. With a remarkable strike rate of 161.32, he has already scored 342 runs in nine innings.
