Vinod Bisht, the CEO of Lucknow Super Giants, announced on Monday that promising young fast bowler Mayank Yadav will likely miss the team’s upcoming IPL home match against Delhi Capitals on April 12. Mayank is suffering from an abdominal strain sustained during LSG’s 33-run win against Gujarat Titans on Sunday night. The franchise will monitor his condition throughout the week.
“Mayank has some soreness in his lower abdomen, his workload will be managed cautiously over the next week as a precautionary measure. We hope he can return to the field soon,” said Bisht in an official statement.
Though Mayank’s return was unconfirmed, the announcement implies he may also miss Lucknow Super Giants’ April 14 match against Kolkata Knight Riders at Eden Gardens. Since lower abdominal injuries often sideline fast bowlers for extended periods, it seems improbable the injury-prone pacer will recover so quickly.
After bowling just one over against the Titans on Sunday night, Mayank left the ground with the LSG physio.
Mayank has created a buzz because of his remarkable pace, frequently surpassing 150 kmph with ease. But Mayank failed to go above 140 kmph in his only over against the Gujarat Titans innings, giving up 13 runs in the process.
For the rest of the evening, he didn’t come out to the field or bowl. At first, a side strain was cited as the cause of his absence. LSG all-rounder Krunal Pandya stated that Mayank seemed well after the game.
“I have no idea what’s going on. He seemed fine during our conversation, which is encouraging. He has a sound head on his shoulder based on our interactions and conversations. Really looking forward to seeing how his career develops,” Krunal commented during the presentation ceremony after the game.
Mayank, who debuted against Punjab Kings in the current IPL season, had already taken six wickets in his first two matches before an injury forced him off the field during the third game.
Mayank has had limited first-class cricket experience over the past two seasons, playing only one match since his senior debut. This season, he missed the entire Ranji Trophy tournament after sustaining a side strain while bowling to an Indian player during a practice session before the first-class season began.
