MS Dhoni to miss a few games of IPL 2024, says Chris Gayle
“The Universe Boss” Chris Gayle has predicted that MS Dhoni will not play every match in the 2024 IPL. The former WI opener stated Dhoni would probably take a rest in the middle of the tournament, and that’s why he passed the Chennai Super Kings’ captaincy to Ruturaj Gaikwad before the season started.
“Dhoni might sit out for a few games this season, but he seems fit. There is no need to panic,” Gayle said on Jio Cinema.
The wicketkeeper battled a knee injury in 2023. Despite speculation about his retirement last year, the five-time IPL-winning captain has returned for the 17th season.
He has given Gaikwad responsibility for the franchise’s future direction. Any doubts about Dhoni’s fitness were erased last Friday as he moved nimbly behind the wicket, hardly facing any difficulty. His long hair framed the moment perfectly when he ran out Anuj Rawat on the final ball of RCB’s innings in the opening match of IPL 2024.
Dhoni will bat at the no 7 or 8 slots, allowing him to see how others perform in the batting unit.
CSK on top in head-to-head competition against RCB
Mustafizur Rahman, with his array of clever variations, set up the win for CSK by restricting RCB to 173-6. Ravindra Jadeja and Shivam Dube then sealed the comfortable six-wicket victory with their superb finishing skills.
CSK extended their impressive home record against RCB, remaining unbeaten since 2008.
Mustafizur, claiming his best-ever IPL figures of 4/29, was instrumental in limiting RCB. The visitors’ only respite was a 95-run sixth-wicket stand between Anuj Rawat (48 off 25) and Dinesh Karthik (38* off 26).
