Despite her fame, the 89-year-old actress now enjoys a secluded life in the quaint town of Pulborough, nestled in the picturesque countryside of West Sussex.

Here, Smith resides in a charming 15th-century red brick home, which she acquired with her late husband, playwright Beverley Cross, in 1981. 

The property boasts five bedrooms, three barns, a vineyard, a horse stable, and an orchard, serving as a tranquil retreat where Smith raised her two sons, Christopher and Toby.

While the actress prefers to keep the details of her countryside lifestyle private, she is occasionally spotted shopping at the nearby Waitrose in Storrington.

Britain Express writes that the village is “an old market town at the confluence of the Rivers Arun and Rother”.

It said: “Pulborough stands on the route of the Roman Stane Street. 

“The oldest part of the village is a conservation area and has a mix of attractive medieval, Tudor and later Georgian houses.”

Visitors to Pulborough are enchanted by its natural beauty and serene surroundings. 

The town offers easy access to both London and the coast, yet it is best explored leisurely, allowing visitors to soak in its picturesque landscapes and charming attractions. 

One such highlight is the Brooks Nature Reserve, nestled in the Arun Valley, offering breathtaking views across the South Downs.

Pulborough is also renowned for its abundant wildlife and lush countryside, making it a haven for nature enthusiasts.

The region’s dry and sunny climate has contributed to the growing popularity of its wines, showcasing Pulborough as a rising star in the British wine scene.

Dame Judi Dench has also embraced a quieter life in the rolling hills of Surrey, where she resides in an £8 million mansion with her late husband, Michael Williams.
