Ravichandran Ashwin thanked MS Dhoni for helping him become one of the best spinners. Ashwin came to the limelight while playing for Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the Indian Premier League (IPL).
He was a part of the franchise in the inaugural season but didn’t make it to the playing XI. H got to spend time with Dhoni, Muttiah Muralitharan and Matthew Hayden.
Ashwin made his IPL debut against the Mumbai Indians in Cape Town in 2009. The veteran spinner, who recently played his 100th Test and completed 500 Test wickets, said he would forever be indebted to Dhoni.
Ashwin was speaking at the felicitation ceremony organized by the Tamil Nadu Cricket Association (TNCA)
“I met greats like Mathew Hayden, Muttiah Muralitharan, and MS Dhoni while being a part of CSK in 2008. I was a nobody then,” Ashwin said.
“I am indebted to Dhoni for the rest of my life for giving me a chance with the new ball to go head on with Chris Gayle and 17 years later Anil bhai spoke about the same episode,” he added.
Ashwin now plays for Rajasthan Royals and will have a big role to play in IPL 2024.
