David Warner gets injured ahead of IPL 2024
David Warner’s final T20I series for Australia has ended with southpaw to miss the final game against New Zealand due to groin soreness.
He needs a short period to recover but it is not expected to stop him from playing for Delhi Capitals in the Indian Premier League 2024 and the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 in the West Indies and USA.
Warner didn’t play in the second T20I, with Australia winning by 72 runs. The team officials had claimed that David was rested.
The 37-year-old was present at the ground and even appeared for pre-game discussion. He didn’t undertake the responsibilities of the 12th man.
Prior to the series, Warner spoke about the hostile nature of New Zealand fans.
After his dismissal for 32 runs in the series opener at Wellington’s Sky Stadium last Wednesday, Warner was subjected to boos. He responded by blowing kisses in the direction of the fans.
David Warner’s absence will give another chance to Steve Smith at the top of the order.
However, with Matt Short also in the team and the upcoming Test series starting next week, it remains to be seen how Australia will go ahead for the final game.
Meanwhile, New Zealand will be without Devon Conway, who was hit on the thumb while keeping wickets in the second match.
