The Netflix sensation, One Day, was filmed in stunning locations across the UK and Europe.

Since its release, many viewers have been moved by the emotional drama, which is based on David Nicholls’ novel and has been adapted for the screen a second time.

The new version features Leo Woodall from The White Lotus and Ambika Mod from This is Going to Hurt as Dexter and Emma, the main characters. Their relationship unfolds over one specific date each year for over a decade.

The series’ success and its ending have left fans wanting more. If you’ve already seen the film adaptation and read the book, visiting the filming locations could be a way to get your One Day fix.

These include Rome, Greece, London and Edinburgh, all of which are beautiful.

Scotland

In Scotland, the first episode sees Emma and Dexter meet at a university graduation party in Edinburgh. Their first chat takes place in the courtyard of The Old College, a late 18th-century building that’s part of the University of Edinburgh.

“Although Old College remains actively used by the University of Edinburgh, housing their law school along with various academic office functions, there is a publicly accessible area which shows Playfair’s classical internal space, which is the Talbot Rice gallery. This free-entry art gallery is worth visiting to see Old College from the inside,” Edinburgh Expert writes.

From there the pair move to Arthur’s Seat, an extinct volcano that sits at the bottom of the Royal Mile and looks out across the city. A moderately challenging hike to the top rewards you with incredible views of Edinburgh.

England

Much of the series plays out in London, with many of the couple’s encounters taking place in restaurants and hotels across the English capital.

The London hotel, The Savoy, Primrose Hill and King’s Cross station all appear as themselves in the show, while the Old Suffolk Punch in Hammersmith stands in for the fictional Loco Caliente, the Mexican restaurant where Emma and Ian work. The Old Suffolk is not currently open, so a pilgrimage there may be a little dissatisfying.

At one point in the series, Dexter finds himself at Emma’s parents’ house in Hertfordshire. Filming took place at Benington Lordship, near Stevenage in Hertfordshire. One of the best times to visit the stately pile is in August when it hosts the Benington Chilli Festival.

Hatfield House in Hertfordshire is nearby and is also employed as a location in the series for a key scene (no spoilers). The Jacobean House was also a filming location for The Favourite, Paddington 2 and Bridgerton.

Rome

In the second episode, Dexter finds himself in the Eternal City, standing in front of the statuesque 17th-century Fontana dell’Acqua Paola and then wandering through Trastevere quarter, before meeting his mum on the Spanish Steps. They later look out on the Rome Skyline from a hotel that is near Piazza Navona.

The terrace is on Bio Hotel Raphael on Largo Febo, while the entrance where Dexter says goodbye is the Campo de’ Fiori, via del Biscione, Conde Naste Traveller reports.

Greece

In episode four Emma and Dexter decide to soak up some sunshine and head to Naousa in Paros, Greece. The small fishing village plays host to episodes of their fledgling romance, as do several of the beaches on the island.

France

Towards the end of the series, Emma and Dexter find themselves in Paris. Together they stroll along the Rue Pierre Semard and onto the Passerelle Emmanuelle Riva, an iron bridge that crosses Canal St Martin.
