“Observed him hitting balls in the nets”: Australian legends looking forward to MS Dhoni’s return in IPL 2024
Chennai Super Kings (CSK) skipper MS Dhoni has commenced his training for the upcoming 2024 Indian Premier League (IPL) season, as confirmed by the team’s coaching staff member, Michael Hussey.
With the IPL scheduled to kick off at the end of March, this could potentially mark Dhoni’s final cricketing endeavour, making his return to the nets a notable development for fans.
Retired from international cricket in 2020 and abstaining from domestic cricket, Dhoni’s last appearance on the cricket field was in the 2023 IPL final against the Gujarat Titans (GT). Despite grappling with knee issues throughout the tournament, he underwent surgery post-CSK’s fifth title triumph.
Commenting on the IPL during the second T20I clash between Australia and the West Indies, Michael Hussey expressed his anticipation for the tournament.
“Excited for the IPL, it’s an amazing tournament. Top players worldwide and the best Indian talents participating. Being part of it is incredible. The crowds, the noise, and the atmosphere at the grounds are unbelievable,” Hussey said.
Responding to co-commentator Mark Howard’s inquiry about Dhoni, Hussey provided an interesting update. “Yes, MS Dhoni has returned. I believe he’s already practicing in the nets,” he added.
Recent clips of MS Dhoni’s training sessions have surfaced on social media platforms, showcasing the skipper in action as he gears up for the IPL. Dhoni, known for defying age, aims to leave a lasting impression in the upcoming season.
Adam Gilchrist, another commentator on the panel highlighted a new addition to Dhoni’s cricket gear – a bat sticker featuring the logo of ‘Prime Sports’. It is a sports shop owned by Dhoni’s childhood friend, Paramjit Singh.
“Observed him hitting balls recently in the nets with a new bat sticker, from a local sports store owned by one of his schoolmates. Probably MS said, ‘I’ll put your company name on my bat to give your store a boost,’” Gilchrist said.
Paramjit Singh has played a significant role in Dhoni’s cricketing journey, even assisting the legendary player with his first bat sponsorship deal during his early days in the international circuit.
As CSK prepares for the forthcoming season, the team has made high-profile signings in the form of Rachin Ravindra and Daryl Mitchell. With these additions, CSK is poised to be one of the teams to watch out for in IPL 2024.
