Lucknow Super Giants have named Shamar Joseph as a replacement for Mark Wood for the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024. Joseph will join LSG for INR 3 Crore.
The speedster played a key role in West Indies’ Test win over Australia at the Gabba. He took 7 wickets in the second innings to script upset. This will be his first stint in IPL.
Wood has pulled out of the tournament to manage his workload for the ICC T20 World Cup 2024.
Joseph made his Test debut in the series against Australia, dismissing Steve Smith with his first ball in Adelaide. The visitors lost that game. However, despite an injured foot, his seven wickets in the second innings in Gabba were applauded by greats of the game.
Wood joined LSG in the auction before IPL 2022 for INR 7.50 crore. However, he missed the season due to an elbow injury. In IPL 2023, he took 11 wickets in four matches.
