Majorca is a very popular place for tourists from all over the globe to visit. It offers warm weather and beautiful beaches as well as bustling and historic towns.

Palma, the capital of the Balearic Islands, attracts millions of people every year and is a major European holiday destination. However, some holidaymakers are also opting for one other town located in the south west region of the Balearic island. It is known for its stunning coastline and vibrant nightlife, with German tourists taking a particular liking to the area.

Peguera, located 17 miles west of Palma, is among the most favoured places for tourists as well as German celebrities to buy properties. As you walk down the main street, you’ll immediately see German signs and restaurants with German-speaking staff.

Data shows that around 24% of the registered expats in Majorca are German. Meanwhile, 22% are from Italy and just under 20% are from the UK.

Peguera is often referred to as “Little Germany” and benefits from hot summers and mild winters. It has three main beaches which have white sand and clear blue waters.

Germans are attracted to the diverse landscapes and natural beauty of Peguera. They are also drawn to the nightlife that the town has to offer.

The area hosts annual German-style beer festivals, including the Oktoberfest at Santa Ponsa. There are also a number of places to buy German beer and sausages throughout the year in Peguera.

As well as lazing on the beach, Peguera is a great spot for hikers and bikers. They can follow the popular trail which leads to the mountain village of Es Capdella.

There are also a range of hotels and restaurants available for tourists in Peguera. Many of the hotels are located on the hillside above the beaches.

Peguera has a number of positive reviews on TripAdvisor, with many people recommending the town as a place to visit during the summer. However, some British people have warmed that holidaying at the resort will make you feel as if you’re in Germany.

Johnpearl said: “My memories of Peguera go back to the seventies when even back then it had original charm and was not like the purpose built resorts. What is now clear is that it has gone so German you feel as if you are in Germany.

“It is not that I have a problem with that it is just that you are lucky if you see any English people there. It has now become a resort that you can visit but you feel out of place staying at which I think is a crying shame.”

Janjo-7, from Coventry, added: “My wife and I (plus numerous friends) have been going to Peguera for well over 20 Years. A beautiful spot made more so by the absence, in general, of the ‘Package Tour’.”

They continued: “It is however predominently a ‘German’ resort, so if you have problems on this score I advise you to keep away! But this co-incidentally manages to keep the standards high as the Germans in general tend to look for far better facilities etc.”
