“It is Indian Premier League”: Shreyas Iyer gives blunt reply on availability of overseas players for second phase
The IPL 2025 has resume with a match between Kolkata Knight Riders and Royal Challengers Bengaluru at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. The tournament was suspended on May 9 after the Delhi Capitals and the Punjab Kings match was called off in Dharamshala, following drone and missile attack by Pakistan in Jammu and Pathankot.
However, the resumption of the tournament was announced after ceasefire between India and Pakistan.
The return of foreign players hogged the limelight particularly in light of the World Test Championship final between South Africa and Australia, which is set to commence on June 11. Mitchell Starc, Moeen Ali and several others pulled out of the remaining matches while some big names will leave affer the league stage.
Despite these uncertainties, Shreyas Iyer, the captain of the Punjab Kings, has conveyed a powerful message. PBKS posted a video on X in which two individuals speculate about the availability of Josh Inglis, Marcus Stoinis, Josh Hazlewood, and Marco Jansen for the second phase of IPL 2025. Reacting to their conversation Iyer said, “The players you are referring to are incredibly talented, but let’s not forget, this is the ‘Indian’ Premier League.”

The BCCI informed IPL franchises on Thursday that they must release eight South African players for the World Test Championship Final by May 26. The BCCI also confirmed that West Indies players would be available for the remainder of the tournament.
Tristan Stubbs (DC), Wiaan Mulder (SRH), Kagiso Rabada (GT), Corbin Bosch (MI), Ryan Rickelton (MI), Marco Jansen (PBKS), Lungi Ngidi (RCB), and Aiden Markram (LSG) will leave India after completing the group stage.
