Barcelona and Malaga are two popular Spanish holiday destinations, but a hidden gem has been branded Spain’s ‘most beautiful city.’

Seville is the capital of Andalusia and has about 700,000 inhabitants, making it the fourth largest city in Spain, according to Seville City Guide. It is located on the Guadalquivir river and, thanks to its many historical highlights, is seen by many people as “the most beautiful city of Andalusia and Spain.”

TikTok account Viento Libre, which shares must-know travel tips about Spain, has posted a video highlighting the beauty of Seville and some hidden gems in the city. Seville is known for its beautiful architecture, rich history, vibrant flamenco culture and delicious cuisine, particularly tapas.

Here are some must-see attractions recommended by the account.

1. Plaza del Cabildo

The first must-see place in Seville Viento Libre displayed is Plaza del Cabildo. It is described as a “peaceful semi-circular square tucked away near the cathedral” with “charming arches” and a “hidden antique market” that make it a “true treasure.”

According to Andalucia.com, Plaza del Cabildo is worth visiting for its beautiful painted arches in a semi-circular colonnade. It has a fountain and palm trees, offering a peaceful atmosphere to escape from the crowds.

The Andalucia tourism board states this small, little-known square can be reached from three sides: through a small covered arcade off Avenida de la Constitución, opposite the western façade of the cathedral, from calle Almirantazgo, between the Correos (Post Office) and Postigo del Aceite and from Calle Arfe, in the Arenal district, next to the Mercado El Postigo.

It adds that on Sunday mornings, there is a longstanding market where vendors sell stamps, coins, military insignia and other collectibles, as well as archaeological pieces and minerals.

2. Palacio de las Dueñas

This stunning palace was built between the 15th and 16th centuries and is the historic residence of the House of Alba as well as a museum. The Spanish travel TikTok account said: “Step into history with this stunning palace. Its colorful tiles, lush gardens, and aristocratic vibes will transport you to another era.”

There is lots to discover when visiting this palace, including courtyards, gardens and majestic rooms, as per Seville City Guide. The website further describes the architecture of the characteristic Renaissance style mixed with Moorish and Gothic influences.

3. Basílica de la Macarena

The final hidden gem Viento Libre highlighted is Basílica de la Macarena, a colourful neo-Baroque church building dating from 1949 in honour of the virgin Mary ‘La Virgen de la Esperanza Macarena’. The TikTok account said it is “home to Seville’s beloved Virgin of Hope Statue” and the basilica’s “golden altarpiece and emotional significance during Semana Santa are unforgettable.”

Seville City Guide shared that the statue is surrounded by expensive relics, above the great altar of the Basilica. It added: “The surrounding neighbourhood ‘Macarena’ is the working-class district of Seville and the basilica is very popular with the locals.”
