Tourist visits British pub in America and 1 thing leaves him stunned | Travel News | Travel

A British food content creator stopped by an American take on a British pub whilst in away and revealed to his subscribers on YouTube what he thought about it. The YouTuber known as Big Nibbles “disguised” himself as an American local and visited the George and Dragon pub in Arizona. He starts his video with questioning if “this American version of a British pub lives up to this British man’s cultural expectations of the place?”

Showing clips of the interior, the pub near enough hit the standards of any common British pub. It also featured the England and Union Jack flags on the ceiling. However, besides it looking like a pub you would find in the UK, there was one thing that actually surprised the undercover Brit – it was the smell.

“The first thing about this place that they get right is suprisingly the smell. I have no idea how they did it, but it smells just like the dark dingy pubs of my childhood,” he says.

He followed up by sharing all the pictures of Queen Elizabeth II and the UK on the walls. Punters can even enjoy a game of darts or pool with multiple boards and tables dotted around the pub.

Of course, he couldn’t leave without trying out some food to see if it really lived up to the British culture. The food creator opted for a classic fish and chips, but instead of mushy peas, the dish was served up with a piece of lettuce and coleslaw, and his take on it? – “A good attempt”.

Concluding his visit, he tells viewers that if they ever find themselves in the US state, missing the UK then a trip to the George and Dragon “might just make you feel at home”.

The video gained a huge 51,000 likes and over 1,200 comments of people sharing their take on the “British” pub.

One person jokely said: “Too much sun nearby, can’t be a truly British experience with that much light.” Another person commented: “The biggest give away that it’s not acutally American is that is not cramped enough, everything is too big. The inexplicable random pictures is accurate though.”

Speaking on what it propbably smelt like, one person commented: “The smell is stale beers and cigarettes, a forgotten combo in UK pubs lol.”
