This pretty UK walk is one that’s perfect for the Easter bank holiday weekend if you’re looking to take a staycation. The Wye Valley Walk is a 142 mile trek that will bring you through some of the prettiest landscapes in Wales and England.

You’ll pass along the natural route of one of the UK’s longest rivers, which you can follow from its source to its mouth on the walk. Starting in the remote Hafren Forest in the heart of Mid Wales, you’ll follow the Wye as it emerges from the mountains and tumbles through the Welsh countryside, meanders through orchards and farmland in Herefordshire, and carves through limestone gorges as it approaches the mighty River Severn. If you plan to hike the whole way, you’d need eight to 14 days but don’t worry if you just want to complete part of it, you can pick up at any point along the route and walk for as long as you feel like.

In terms of difficulty, the walk is between moderate and strenuous but there are some stretches that are easier than others if you’re looking for something that’s not too challenging.

One visitor on Tripadvisor said: “Beautiful walk. We stayed in Monmouth and walked from there to Symond Yat on day one.

“About two hours walking along the river Wye. Stunning scenery. Easy walk not too much up and down. Even had enough energy to go up to Symond Yat Rock for the views.

“Day two we walked south to LLandogo to visit Cleddon Shoots waterfall.

“About three to four hours along the river to begin with and then into the forest and along minor roads, returning via road to Redbrook for some well earned drinks next to the river. This is one of the prettiest places in the UK.”

You can start the walk at Plynlimon and it finishes at Chepstow where the River Severn ends.
