Former Australia captain Michael Clarke is not sure the Mumbai Indians will win the IPL 2025 if Jasprit Bumrah doesn’t play for them. He mentioned that the five-time champions will struggle without Bumrah in the early matches of the 18th season.
Bumrah hasn’t recovered from his back injury and is working hard at the National Cricket Academy. There are reports of him joining the Mumbai Indians in the first week of April, but the BCCI hasn’t revealed anything. He could be ruled out of the tournament if he doesn’t get 100 percent fit. His previous back injury kept him out of action for a long time, and the Indian Cricket Board and the team management don’t want to take a risk with the speedster.
MI head coach Mahela Jayawardene also spoke about the fast bowler’s absence. “He has just started the recovery process and we are hopeful of having him back in this season of the tournament,” he said.
Clarke believes Bumrah’s form will play a key role in the success or failure of Mumbai Indians.
“I am scared about Jasprit Bumrah as he hasn’t played cricket for a long time. I know he is a freak and can take five wickets in his first match in this year’s IPL. If there is no Bumrah, Mumbai Indians will find it dificult in IPL 2025,” he said on the Beyond23 Cricket Podcast.
Mumbai retained Bumrah for INR 18 crore. He picked up 20 wickets in 13 matches in the previous league season.
