The pretty little village in the north of England with incredible pub | Travel News | Travel
admin March 16, 2025 ArticleSet in the rolling hills of the Peak District, this quaint Derbyshire village makes the perfect countryside escape, where miles of scenic walks will leave you feeling refreshed and content. For those who prefer all-nighter city breaks, this village may be due a miss, but for outdoor adventurers who want to slow down for a weekend, Beeley is just the place.
Located in the estate where Pride and Prejudice was filmed, its miles of walking trails serve up stunning views, friendly locals and cosy cafes – everything you’d expect from the English countryside. But what’s a country escape without a cosy pub? This pub – the type of place you would go with your parents on a posh Sunday – is renowned among locals for serving up quality dishes, but visitors can also stay in its country chic bedrooms.
The pub actually belongs to a chain of two owned by the Chatsworth Estate, a business you’ll notice throughout the area due to its iconic blue paint, but they used to go by the same name of the Devonshire Arms.
Now you can be sure your sat-nav will take you to the correct place as Beeley’s version has aptly been change to the Beeley Inn, although if you end up at the Pilsley Inn, you’ll be equally as delighted.
Both serve up locally sourced traditional English food, like buttery pies and sticky toffee puddings, and you can be sure a good majority of it comes from the Chatsworth estate.
Head down the road to the farm shop to see the quality of the produce, including fresh meats, local ales, and creamy dairy products.
Just a few minutes drive away from the village is Chatsworth House, the ‘flagship’ of the estate where Beeley Inn is located.
This sand coloured country manor has acres of open land where deer and sheep roam freely, and it was deemed beautiful enough for scenes of Pride and Prejudice to be filmed there.
As you drive up, you may be lucky enough to see the fountains on display in its manicured gardens. The house is open to the public for a fee, and it holds events almost year-round.
