India will face New Zealand in the 2025 Champions Trophy final on Sunday, March 9, at Dubai International Stadium. Rohit Sharma aims to lead India to their second ICC trophy in a year. Despite not being at his best with the bat, he will be keen to score a half-century or more, potentially making history as the first player to achieve a remarkable milestone.
At the Dubai International Stadium, Rohit Sharma has accumulated 421 runs so far. If he manages to score 79 runs in the final, he will become the first player in history to score 500 runs in ODIs at this venue. A mere 4 more runs will see him surpass Scotland’s Richie Berrington to claim the record for the most runs in ODIs at the stadium.
By leading India to the final of the Champions Trophy 2025, Rohit Sharma has already made history as the first captain to guide his team to the finals of the Champions Trophy, the ODI World Cup, the T20 World Cup, and the World Test Championship.
According to a report from The Times of India, the outcome of the India vs New Zealand final will likely influence the future of Rohit Sharma’s leadership as both ODI and Test captain, with the BCCI seeking stability ahead of the 2027 ODI World Cup. The report also mentions that Rohit believes there is still more cricket left in him and is not planning to retire yet. However, whether he will continue as captain in both formats after the Champions Trophy remains to be seen.
“Rohit continues to believe he still has more to offer in cricket. He’s been asked to outline his future plans. The decision to retire is his own, but there will be further conversations regarding his role as captain. Rohit recognizes the importance of having a consistent leader, especially as the team gears up for the World Cup. Discussions have also taken place with Kohli, but there doesn’t appear to be any significant concerns surrounding him,” a BCCI source stated.
