Former India Cricketer Wants Pakistan to Beat Rohit Sharma’s Team
Former India cricketer Atul Wassan has made a surprising remark ahead of the highly anticipated 2025 Champions Trophy match between India and Pakistan. The two teams are set to compete on Sunday, February 23, at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium in Dubai.
Wassan revealed his preference for Pakistan to win the game, as a loss to India would significantly diminish Pakistan’s chances of advancing to the semi-finals of the 2025 Champions Trophy—unless certain unlikely scenarios unfold in their favor. As a result, the former cricketer hopes Pakistan emerges victorious to keep the tournament exciting and competitive.
“I honestly hope Pakistan wins, as it would add more excitement to the tournament. If Pakistan doesn’t win, what will the competition look like? If they do, it creates a real contest. The match should be a fair fight,” he shared with ANI (via NDTV Sports).
Pakistan, after losing their opening match to New Zealand by 60 runs, now faces a must-win situation against India to keep their hopes alive in the 2025 Champions Trophy. India, on the other hand, won their first match against Bangladesh.
“We have some strong batters like Shubman Gill, Rohit Sharma, and Virat Kohli. Our batting lineup extends all the way to Axar Patel at number eight. With Rohit selecting five spinners, this team is well-suited for conditions in Dubai. Trust in what we have and keep moving forward,” he mentioned in the interview.
Atul Wassan praised India’s strong batting depth and supported captain Rohit Sharma’s decision to include five spinners, calling the team well-suited to the Dubai conditions.
In their opening game on February 20, India bowled first and restricted Bangladesh to 228, with Mohammed Shami taking five wickets. Despite a shaky chase, Shubman Gill (101 not out) and KL Rahul (41 not out) guided India to a six-wicket victory.
