Former player Mohammad Yousuf is backing Pakistan to win the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 and also mentioned that the Men in Green have an edge over India. He says Pakistan is the favorite because they will play most of their matches at home.
“India have a balanced side, but Pakistan have the edge because they are playing in home conditions. But they will have to play smartly. Pakistan will win the Champions Trophy,” Yousuf told Samaa TV.
“We recently played on turning tracks, and the batters will have to hit the ball in gaps against the spinners to rotate the strike. New Zealand exposed us in the tri-series final. We failed to dominate their spinners and ended up playing dot balls. There are many gaps available with five fielders in the 30-yard circle,” he added.
“New Zealand have players who can perform in the sub-continent. They have quality pacers and spinners. Their batting unit is soild and they also have two spin-bowling all-rounders,” he concluded.
India have been a dominating force against Pakistan across white-ball formats in the last few years. Pakistan’s only win came in the 2021 T20 World Cup. Rohit’s team went past the rivals in the T20 World Cup in 2022, and 2024 and the 2023 ODI World Cup.
