Mohammed Shami hasn’t been given a full quota of overs by Suryakumar Yadav and Rohit Sharma in the T20I and ODI series against England. The veteran speedster is playing international cricket after more than a year due to his ankle injury and surgery.
Former India player Aakash Chopra feels Shami is not ready for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, as the team management has refrained from using him so far. Aakash asked about the seamer’s readiness from Sanjay Bangar.
“Shami is not ready as he is not in rhythm. The conditions would be different in Dubai as the ball would carry, and there would be sideway movement. I think he should play in all three ODI matches against England to give him more game time,” Sanjay Bangar said on Sports 18.
Aakash highlighted that playing him will not solve the purpose if he is not given overs. “If you play Shami, give him overs. He will only get better if he bowls in a match,” he said.
Shami, Jasprit Bumrah, and Arshdeep Singh are the three specialist fast bowlers in the Champions Trophy squad. Bumrah hasn’t recovered from his back injury and is likely to miss the tournament, with Harshit Rana likely to be his replacement.
