“Afghanistan boast the best spin attack in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025”: Aakash Chopra
The 2025 Champions Trophy is set to take place in Pakistan and Dubai, starting on February 19. Afghanistan, placed in Group B alongside Australia, England, and South Africa, will play all their group-stage matches in Pakistan.
Former Indian opener Aakash Chopra, in a video on his YouTube channel Aakash Chopra, highlighted Afghanistan’s strong spin-bowling attack.
He emphasized that Afghanistan is no longer an underdog, having a track record of defeating top teams in ICC tournaments. Chopra added that Hashmatullah Shahidi and his squad fear no one and have the ability to put pressure on their opponents.
Aakash Chopra highlighted Afghanistan’s formidable spin attack as the best in the 2025 Champions Trophy. Comparing it to India’s squad, he acknowledged that while India has included four spinners three finger spinners along with Kuldeep Yadav Afghanistan’s spin lineup stands out as superior.
“They have Rashid Khan, Noor Ahmad, Allah Ghazanfar, and Mohammad Nabi each one a top-class spinner, While India often selects bowlers who can contribute with the bat, Afghanistan’s spinners are purely specialists. They have the ability to bowl 40 overs of quality spin, and even the slightest pitch assistance will put the opposition under immense pressure.”
Beyond their spin department, Chopra emphasized Afghanistan’s depth in all-rounders. “Some might argue that their all-rounders are bits and pieces players, but that’s not the case, Azmatullah Omarzai is a genuine batter, Gulbadin Naib is capable with both bat and ball, Mohammad Nabi is a well-rounded all-rounder, and Rahmanullah Gurbaz is a solid wicketkeeper-batter. Even Rashid Khan is a handy contributor with the bat.”
Chopra further noted that Afghanistan’s all-rounders are particularly well-suited to the tournament’s conditions. “Sometimes, subcontinental all-rounders struggle in places like Australia and England, but this team is built differently. They have players who can thrive in these conditions and make a real impact.”
