Abhishek Sharma played two match-winning knocks in the five-match T20I series against England. He started it with a magnificent fifty-plus score and ended the assignment with a sensational hundred in Mumbai.
His 135 runs came off 54 balls, with the help of 13 sixes and 7 fours, as India defeated the English side by 150 runs to win the series by 4-1. Consistency has been an issue with the batter since he made his debut against Zimbabwe last year.
He has registered more failures than contributions in the shortest format. His place in the team has been questioned by former players, considering the amount of talent India possesses as a country.
Parthiv Patel, who is following Abhishek’s progress closely, pointed out the reason behind his recent success. He mentioned that Abhishek has started playing the short balls to the off-side as well.
“You can see a big change in his batting style. He has found a new way of handling short balls. Earlier, he was targetting only the leg side of the wicket, and the bowlers were cramping him for room.
“After failing against Bangladesh and South Africa, he went back and worked on his weakness. He is now hitting the short balls to the off side by using the pace of the bowler,” he said on Star Sports.
